Maggie
A song about a man’s love for the sea, Maggie was fittingly
created at the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival in 1999. Kate
started it off, and more lyrics were contributed by Cathy and
friends Brenda Sheppard and Jamie McSwain – a
real summer collaboration spawned in impromptu jam
sessions among the tents. Listen: mp3 Real

When the Heart Calls
Heather wrote this song when she was caring for her
brother in Toronto after a serious operation for
cancer. As the surgery loomed, each member of their
immediate family felt the heartcall and seemingly “dropped out of the sky” one by one
from all over the country to be together for the operation.
(He’s doing well now, by the way.) Listen: mp3

My Baby Thinks he’s a Train
The song was written by Leroy Preston, a founding member
of western swing band Asleep at the Wheel, and covered
by Roseanne Cash. We learned it for a show of train
songs which was put together by some of our musical
friends, and it’s been
a huge crowd pleaser ever since.
Cross in Your Road
Kate wrote this song for her daughter who was leaving
her boyfriend behind in Nova Scotia while she went
to work in Germany. (They’re
now married with a baby – which makes Kate a
grandmother! But she doesn't age. Just ripens.) Listen: mp3
