Cuckoo Moon

Our CD - Live at Fundy Folk

CD Reviews by you!

The CD was digitally recorded in April 2001 at the Evergreen in East Margaretsville on the 10th anniversary of Fundy Folk. It was released on March 30, 2003. (It's a good thing digital recordings don't age with time! Well, neither do we!)

Playing with us that night were our fabulous guest artists Ken Shorley on percussion, Kirk Hazel on fretted and fretless bass, and Bernard Zinck on electric and acoustic guitar. Cheering us along was a packed house of friends, fans and family.

All but one of the ten songs on the CD are our original tunes, and we've added everyone's favourite, My Baby Thinks He's a Train by Leroy Preston because it REALLY rocked that night.

With great photography by Nance Ackerman and all the words to all the songs, the CD is something to see as well as hear.

Here are the songs:

Meekin Brook
The Meekin Brook runs past Kate’s house on the North Mountain. She wrote this song for her husband Brian. mp3 Real Audio

Life on the Line
“Too many people know too soon the face on the far side of the moon.” Dreams, despair, love, just coping…. Cathy captures the edginess of maturing through what life throws at you. Listen: mp3 Real Audio

Under Currents
Another water-themed song written by Kate for her husband Brian back when they’d been together for only 14 years. Listen: mp3 Real Audio

Blessed Night
Kate and her sister Anna Osburn penned this lovely song by e-mail, even though they live a mile apart. The wonders of modern technology! Listen: mp3 Real Audio

Turn at the Dance
In which Kate surrenders to the Dance of Life. Listen: mp3 Real Audio

Maggie
A song about a man’s love for the sea, Maggie was fittingly created at the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival in 1999. Kate started it off, and more lyrics were contributed by Cathy and friends Brenda Sheppard and Jamie McSwain – a real summer collaboration spawned in impromptu jam sessions among the tents. Listen: mp3 Real Audio

When the Heart Calls
Heather wrote this song when she was caring for her brother in Toronto after a serious operation for cancer. As the surgery loomed, each member of their immediate family felt the heartcall and seemingly “dropped out of the sky” one by one from all over the country to be together for the operation. (He’s doing well now, by the way.) Listen: mp3 Real Audio

Follow the Fool
Cathy wrote this latin-beat song for the Fundy Folk Songwriters Project organized in 1999 by the Fundy Folk Society which toured the Maritimes and played on CBC Radio. mp3 Real Audio

My Baby Thinks he’s a Train
The song was written by Leroy Preston, a founding member of western swing band Asleep at the Wheel, and covered by Roseanne Cash. We learned it for a show of train songs which was put together by some of our musical friends, and it’s been a huge crowd pleaser ever since.

Cross in Your Road
Kate wrote this song for her daughter who was leaving her boyfriend behind in Nova Scotia while she went to work in Germany. (They’re now married with a baby – which makes Kate a grandmother! But she doesn't age. Just ripens.) Listen: mp3 Real Audio
