A dinner celebrating local food and wine will be held on Wednesday April 29, 2009 in the Fireside Room at The Old Orchard Inn, Greenwich, at 6 pm. Tickets will be $25. Ten or more chefs will be preparing local food paired with local wines. The producers and presenters will be involved in the event, informing people about local food products. Funds will be raised to help support school gardens.

April Flavours is presented by the Farmers, Wine Makers, and Chefs, The Arthur Irving Academy for the Environment, Gaspereau Vineyards, Friends of Agriculture, Select Nova Scotia, Spirit Nova Scotia, Food Action Committee of the Ecology Action Centre, Kings County Federation of Agriculture, Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, Organic Council of Nova Scotia, Wolfville Farmer's Market, and other Farm, Food, and Community Organizations.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 pm followed by the main feast at 7 pm, desserts and coffee.

Cuckoo Moon will perform during the evening.

This event will create an opportunity for people to sample the wonderful foods that are available in the early spring in Nova Scotia, and to learn more about the importance of sustainable local food. Many of the foods we eat travel great distances - at great cost to the environment, to our health, and to the Nova Scotian economy. Every job in agriculture in NS contributes to our sustainability, supports additional jobs and helps retain our rural heritage.

In the week leading up to the April 29th dinner many local restaurants will be featuring seasonal food and wine from local producers. Please visit and ask for the April Flavours Special.
